Why plan snow-melt during design

  • It costs the least during the pour. Utah installers quote new-pour electric at $12–$20/sq ft and hydronic at $18–$28/sq ft, while retrofits require removing and re-pouring the slab [Bedrock Concrete Pros].
  • Size the boiler for it. A Wasatch Back hydronic specialist says a boiler sized only for home heat is a common cause of snow-melt failures, and quotes a dedicated snow-melt boiler at $4,500–$8,000 extra [Utah Boiler Experts].
  • Steep, snowy lots. In Deer Valley, Promontory and other communities with steep access and heavy snow, heated driveways are described as common and in some cases required [Real Estate in Park City].
